China, 1368-1644. The bejeweled Wisdom Bodhisattva is cast with a serene facial expression, wearing a tall crown fronting his chignon, surrounded by heavenly bands as he sits on a recumbent Buddhist lion. The base trimmed with finely incised lotus petals.

Provenance: Collection of Carl Imbeck (ca. 1860-1936) and thence by descent in the same family. Merchant in Peking. By repute, Imbeck acquired this piece during the Boxer Rebellion.

Condition: Fine condition with good, natural patina. Minor losses, dents, casting flaws and old wear.
